Anointing was first performed by Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. Anointing of the sick
conveys several graces and confers gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety,
despair, and temptation, and further extends peace and courage. Parishioners of advanced
age or those experiencing serious illness are encouraged to contact the rectory to arrange for
anointment.
Baptism is a child’s initiation into the Christian community and the foundation of his or her life as
a Catholic—a fundamental basis of the entire Christian life experience. Clergy members of Our
Lady of the Valley are happy to conduct this special ceremony for all families who are registered
with the parish. Please note:
§ Baptisms are celebrated on the last Sunday of each month immediately
following the 12 noon mass.
§ Arrangements must be made one month in advance of the requested date.
Please contact the rectory at 973-674-7500.
§ Parents and Godparents are required to attend a class in preparation for
baptism.
The Divine Mercy are prayers based on the writings of St. Faustina, a Polish nun, who recorded and
shared revelations she received regarding God’s mercy. The Chaplet emanates from the Lord’s
promises to grant grace and mercy for the souls who pray it. The “Feast of Mercy” is celebrated on
the first Sunday after Easter, but the Chaplet is recited at Our Lady of the Valley after the daily 9 A.M.
mass in the chapel. For more information about St. Faustina, the first saint of the new millennium,
and the Divine Mercy, refer to http://www.marian.org/divinemercy/index.html.
Priests and Ministers of the Eucharist are available to bring Communion to homebound parishioners.
Contact the rectory to make arrangements.
Confessions are heard on Saturdays between 4:30 and 5:15 P.M. or by appointment. Call the rectory
at 973-674-7500.
Five principles of a good confession:
Ø A heartfelt examination of conscience;
Ø Sincere sorrow at having offended God by sinning;
Ø Confession of all sins;
Ø A promise to refrain from further sinning;
Ø Genuine attempt to make amends through penance.
EUCHARISTIC EXPOSITION & BENEDICTION
Eucharistic exposition and benediction are a part of the Church's official liturgy and is a complete
liturgical service in its own right. The intention of exposition is adoration of Christ present in the
Blessed Sacrament. It is celebrated at Our Lady of the Valley on Wednesdays from 7:30 P.M. to
8:30 P.M.
THE
HOLY ROSARY is recited 15 minutes before every Mass.
Couples planning marriage should contact the rectory to arrange to speak to a priest one year

Miraculous Medal, which was first revealed to St. Catherine of Laboure during an apparition.
Miraculous Medal Novena Devotions are celebrated during the Saturday morning mass held
in the chapel at 9:00 A.M.
WAY OF THE CROSS – STATIONS OF THE CROSS

from participating parishioners who purchase gifts based on the age and sex of the child whose name
